Why the Blue Lagoon?

Comino is the small, almost car-free island between Malta and Gozo. On its western edge, a shallow channel of white sand turns the water a startling turquoise: the Blue Lagoon.

Boats run from Malta and Gozo through the season. Timing is everything. Arrive early or stay late and it is magical; at midday in August it can be very crowded.

How do I get to the Blue Lagoon?

By boat only. Ferries and cruises run from Cirkewwa and Marfa at Malta's northern tip (shortest crossing), from Sliema and Bugibba/St Paul's Bay (longer cruises), and from Mgarr on Gozo.

When is the best time to visit?

June and September can balance swimming conditions and crowds. Spring water may feel cool. Choose your day around the marine forecast and confirm that boats operate; no month guarantees calm seas or an uncrowded lagoon.

Do I need to book in advance?

For a normal visit ashore within Blue Lagoon, reserve a free timed landing pass through the official access system separately from your paid ferry or cruise. Is there shade at the Blue Lagoon?

Very little natural shade. You can hire sunbeds and umbrellas, but bring sun protection and water.
